Best Adjustable Bed For Arthritis – 5 Top Rated In 2020

Why use an adjustable bed for arthritis?

When my father-in-law was doing kidney dialysis, he was in constant pain because his body was having a hard time dealing with the back pain that the kidneys were bringing on. We purchased an adjustable bed for him to make his life a little bit easier.

Just by making this purchase, we extended his life by 10 years. Previous to getting an adjustable bed, his joints were causing him so much pain that he was on pain killers. Once we purchased this bed, the pain subsided so that he could actually deal with the dialysis. Finding a good sleeping position became very easy for him. Having a remote close by made it convenient for him to elevate his bed to however high or low he desired.

Now, if you are a person who tosses and turns when you’re sleeping, most often cannot find the best position to sleep in, then the adjustable bed is perfect for you. When we sleep in a standard bed, sometimes pressure points are harder to relieve, especially those related to arthritis.

By being able to change your sleeping position, you’ll be able to manage pressure points without waking up in pain. This happens because the weight is evenly distributed while removing extra pressure from joints.

With arthritis, our joints become inflamed as well erosion can happen in the cartilage. When we are sleeping on a regular bed, our constant movement is adding strain as well as placing stress on our joints. When you have an adjustable bed, you have the luxury of changing positions; however, you wish.

Another great reason to get an adjustable bed is because of its blood circulation stimulation. Both headrest and footrest can be elevated when a person is in recovery mode. Also, when you change positions, this helps the blood to keep circulating.

One of my favorite aspects of an adjustable bed is the massage function. By getting a massage, you can stimulate circulation and alleviate signals of pain that are often sent from joints to our brain. The beds that I’ve reviewed below all have massage selections capabilities.

What to look for in an adjustable bed for arthritis

When considering all the benefits of owning an adjustable bed, you should factor into this some other necessary details as well, such as:

  • Budget – is the bed in alignment with how much you have to spend, is it worth investing in? Some people learn to get used to the pain; they do not want to invest. But others want to wake up pain-free in the morning or have a better quality of life; they will invest in a bed that will make their life easier.
  • Compatibility – is it a standalone, or will it fit into your bed base? Standalone adjustable beds can have the mattress sliding off. The purpose of getting an adjustable bed is so you can rest, so the attention is usually given to one that will fit into your bed base.
  • Bed and mattress – will you be happy getting both or just the adjustable bed? In my review, there are both adjustable bed plus mattress the adjustable bed on its own. You can purchase a mattress separately, depends on what you prefer. Most adjustable beds are compatible with memory foam mattresses. Why? Because memory foam mattresses have contouring abilities. So it doesn’t matter which position your bed is in, the mattress will conform to that shape. But it easily goes back into its original shape when lying flat.

Overall Conclusion

An adjustable bed for arthritis is convenient not only for people who are suffering from joint or back pain; others can enjoy the benefits that an adjustable bed provides as well.

I know my father-in-law was more than happy when we got it for him.

  1. This is a fantastic article. My partner suffers from rheumatoid arthritis and getting up in the morning is when he feels worse, and he doesn’t sleep more than 4 hours a night. I’ve been thinking about this type of bed for a while.

I had no idea that you could get them that fit into your own bed frame I think that makes all the difference. I also love the fact they all have built in USB ports, why don’t regular beds have those!!

Thank you,  you’ve given me some good information to discuss with my partner. He’s a bit proud and doesn’t like buying things for his arthritis but I’m sure this will make a big difference. If he agrees we will come back to this site to choose one.

    Thanks again, Alex

  2. This is a good product. I also have arthritis which when night comes, the pain that arises is very extraordinary.
During this time, I always use a standard bed. And it’s true what you say that to fall asleep will be very difficult, because I have to move to and fro to find the perfect position and I admit that the pressure from sleeping in a standard bed is very big.

Maybe this product can be the best solution for me. Because with the adjustable bed, I can find a better position, so I can fall asleep more easily. Apart from that, the treatment to my arthritis more effectively.

I am interested in iDealBed 4i Custom Adjustable Bed. However, to adjust the position, wave and pulse effects, is only the remote available there? Or do we need to use apps to manage them?

Once again, thank you Eric for your recommendation.
