3 Best Humidifiers For Sleeping – Highly Rated For 2019

best humidifiers for sleeping

Best humidifiers for sleeping are the ones which will help you wake up congestion free with no sore throat.

There are few other things a humidifier will do as well, and they are:

  • Reduce allergens in your room/home
  • *Bring down winter heating bill*
  • Moisturize your skin
  • Relieve headaches due to sinus congestion
  • Relieve irritation in the nose
  • heal a dry bloody nose
  • Soften cracked dry lips
  • Help keep your room cool on hot nights

Controlling humidity is a challenge for many people, especially people who live in constant changing climates. Humidifiers counteract the humidity challenge by creating a specific temperature of humidity, which helps people breathe more comfortably, especially when sleeping at night.

First Of Let’s Discuss What Is A Humidifier

A humidifier is an electronic appliance which you can use to increase moisture into dry air. Many people use humidifiers during the cold/flu months. But I have found that using a humidifier any time of the year helps.

My son gets a lot of nosebleeds to such a degree that clots come out of his nose. At one time, we were at a loss as to what could help him. His nose was cauterized where the bleeding was taking place, but that didn’t help. Someone mentioned that we should buy a humidifier for him.

We did!

It changed everything for him. Another thing we did to keep his nose moist was to put a little bit of vaseline inside his nose. Both vaseline and the humidifier helped to keep his nose clean up all irritants. This stopped him from itching his nose, which prevents the bleeding.

What Is Humidity

It does not matter which type of climate you live in; it’s the levels of the humidity in the air, which will affect your home comfort levels. Managing indoor humidity levels should matter to all of us; once our humidity level is controlled, everyone in the house benefits from it.

Humidity is the amount of water vapor present in the air, which is expressed as a percentage of the amount needed to saturate. As the temperature in the home goes up or down, the capacity of air to hold water also changes.

When you have the right level of moisture in the air, this will ensure not only your health, but it will also protect your household furniture.

The levels of humidity during the summer months should be 30 to 45%. In the winter months, it should remain at 40%. By staying in good range health problems which prevent sleep may be avoided.

By not maintaining proper levels of humidity in your home, it will become uncomfortable as well as family members may become susceptible to respiratory disorders

How To Choose The Best Humidifiers For Sleeping

There are three elements of a humidifier that you will need to consider before making your purchase. Since you’re going to be spending a little bit of money, it’s better if you think it through to make sure that the humidifier your getting is the right one.

  1. Why are you getting a humidifier?

Humidifiers will increase the humidity in your home. The extra moisture will be useful in the winter months. This is when cold/flu season hits us.

  1. Will noise be a concern to you?

Like all mechanical systems, your humidifier may also make some noise. The three that I have reviewed for you are pretty silent.

  1. Will your humidifier require maintenance?

Most humidifiers are low maintenance. The only maintenance you will be required to do is cleaning the water tank to make sure there is no mold, mildew, or bacteria building. You may also need to replace the wick filters every so often.

So let us get on with the review of best humidifiers for sleeping.

1. AIRCARE EP9 800 Digital Whole-House Pedestal-Style Evaporative Humidifier

Features:

  • Sleek design
  • Goes with any interior décor
  • Can in a home of up to 2400 ft.²
  • Great for pets
  • Save energy and money from heating bills
  • Great for your household furniture
  • Over 650 positive review
  • 2-year warranty

This humidifier is pretty qualified to be added as an addition to your other household servicing systems. It will cool and heat your home as desired. This will help you to reduce energy consumption as well as minimize any risks to your health.

Getting to sleep will be easy, because it stays on all day long to keep your room air quality moist enough, so you don’t wake up with any type of congestion.

What I really like about this is that it will keep your home allergy-free. Not just one space of your home, but you’re entire home. It will automatically shut off once the desired humidity level has been achieved.

You can control the humidity in your home of up to 2400 ft.², which is the average home size. All you have to do is set it up in a central location of your home; this will then allow the mist to flow outward to every corner.

It is a digital humidifier which is easy to fill, set up, and then leave it running so long as you desire. It features a thermostat which has nine fan settings. The 3.5-gallon tank will hold enough water to let you run this system for at least 60 hours between refills.

You may need to occasionally change the filter, other than that there will be very little maintenance. By keeping your home humidity level at 40%, you can reduce more than 80% of flu viruses, pollen, and pet dander in your home.

Its sleek model is beautiful and will fit into any interior home design. It comes with a replaceable tile top, meaning you can replace the tile to accent your home. The full height of this humidifier is 27 inches; it will go with any personal style you have.

My Final Opinion

The design is well thought out. It’s not bulky or unattractive to look at; it will run silently while you go about doing your everyday activities. What’s not to like about it?

2. Air Innovations MH-701BA Digital Humidifier

Features:

  • Mist nozzle with direction
  • 6.4-liter water tank
  • Mist settings: Low, Medium, High, Supreme, Turbo
  • Will run for 96 hours
  • Over 250 positive review
  • The ceramic filter will never need to be replaced
  • 1-year warranty

This humidifier has the capacity of holding 1.7 gallons of water. You can efficiently run this at low for 96 hours, which equals to about 12 nights.

It runs silently, which means you can sleep knowing there are no distractions that are going to wake you up in the middle of the night. The power of this humidifier is enough to cover up to 600 sq.ft., meaning it can cover an extra-large room.

You can program the humidifier with the built-in humidistat, which monitors and maintains the humidity level you desire. The entire construction of the humidifier is made of antimicrobial plastic which will prevent mold, bacteria, or mildew from growing.

The ceramic filter helps to filter and trap the impurities of the water to ensure you are getting the best clean mist possible.

The 15” nozzle allows you to use it for the tabletop or the floor. The 360- degree rotating mist nozzle helps to direct the moisture where you need it the most.

It has an auto shut safety button when the humidifier runs out of water. So you will never burn out your system.

You can use it for your babies, kids, or anyone in the household who needs want to breathe in air which will not clog up their sinuses.

My Final Opinion

It comes with a remote control which allows you to do set-up from far away; you can lay in your bed to get it going. A plus for those who don’t want to get up once they are in rest mode.

3. TaoTronics TT-AH001 Cool Mist Humidifier

Features:

  • Hold 4 liters of water
  • The mist will output in 30 minutes
  • Able to use for hot/cold days.
  • Sleek design
  • Automatically shuts off when water is low
  • Over 2000 positive reviews
  • 1-year full warranty

This humidifier holds 4 liters of water; it will go all night long. But the beauty here is it, unlike some humidifiers, it shuts off on it owns.

It can run for 12-30 hours on a full tank and is big enough to cover 322 sq ft. It heats up in 30 minutes, which gets the cooling mist running through.

It has excellent easy to use buttons which are fully displayed with the LED light. The touch power quality makes the buttons easy to access.

When the mist starts to be released, you have three levels to choose from how you want the release to take place.

After you set the automatic timer, the timer icon will flash for 5 seconds to let you know to set the humidity level which will then confirm the output of the mist.

This is a very modern design and is perfect for any environment or weather. You can place it in your bedroom or office.

The noise level on this humidifier is very discreet; you will not hear it running. Because you can control the flowing mist means you won’t wake up with too much/less humidity.

It’s got a cool-mist which makes it an excellent asset for both any dry weather. The humidifier also has a low-level water detection; it will automatically stop running once it reaches this level.

Point to remember – once it fills up, it will be hard to lug around, place it where you’re going to use it.

My Final Opinion

It is the modern design of the system which will add to the overall look of your home; it beats the bulky looking ones any day.

Overall Conclusion

Humidifiers will benefit people with skin issues, respiratory problems, or those who live in low humidity areas.

Our loved ones deserve to breathe clean, moisturized air. For many families, buying a humidifier can be a great choice. It was one of the best decisions we made when we bought it for our son.

A wedge pillow is another great asset with the humidifier; it will keep your head elevated while your nose stays nice and clean due to the moisture in the air.

But just remember that if you have an underlying condition which is affecting your quality of sleep or your health, then you may need to visit your doctor for medical treatment.

Share your tips or techniques about how you create good air quality so you can have an excellent sleep at night.

The majority of my time is spent making sure my dog is happy by taking him on long walks. Other times we hike trails. Over the past six years of my wife's cancer battle, we have had to find different products to help her get a good sleep at night. Believe me, we have gone through many different buys to make sure her sleep is comfortable as can be. But I also need a good sleep, which makes me a better person to be around. She doesn't need a resentful sleepless person around, so some of the purchases have also been for me. So other than walking my dog or helping my wife, the rest of my time is spent finding or discovering good sleeping aids which are not only good for us but from which you may benefit as well.

Hi, Great article. A man needs 6 hours of sleep to keep his body fit. But people can not sleep due to various problems, especially for having human anxiety. Now people use different technologies for sleeping, such as roam heaters, AC, lights, bulbs, but there are good side effects like this. Therefore, from all technologies, the weather in nature is very beneficial for the body, so do not sleep in the morning and go out for exercise. The weather in the morning is good for the body and keeps the body and skin healthy.

  2. Thanks Eric, for this educative article on humidifiers.

They are all great choices depending on the height of the house. I am more attracted to the Air innovations digital humidifier. It’s more sleek.

It;s so comforting to know that by just installing an humidifier in your home, i can reduce all of those allergen-caused sickness, itching and bleeding noses, congestion and the likes.

Would definitely include this in my plan. Thanks!

    1. Great plan. Thanks for stopping by.

Thanks for this article on humidifier, The Air Innovations MH-701BA happen to be an excellent humidifier. The humidistat is very accurate although the tank is a bit tricky to fill it still does a good job of keeping the humidity around 40% in a bed room, I also noticed that the output of this model is the same as the 2.15 gal spec, it is just the water capacity that differs resulting in a shorter time between refills. this actually is the best for me.

Now in the summer, we use two air conditioners in the house, because of the excessive heat. Especially the room where the child sleeps has a somewhat dry atmosphere in the morning. I believe that MH-701BA could make a good job. The price is reasonable. Can this product use as a dehumidifier on winter or this is a different device?  Thanks for the information.

    1. Yes, you can use the humidifier for winter as well. I find the AC is not helpful as it dries out my son’s throat; he always has to have a humidifier running in his room. Otherwise, his sinuses get pretty clogged up, which causes a massive nose bleed.

  5. My Daily Pointers says:

I was just literally speaking with my partner about getting a humidifier for our bedroom because I have been waking up feeling congested and with brutal headaches!  The timing could not be any more perfect.

I live in a climate that is generally very dry and I find with my in floor heating vs forced air, it is even drier yet.  I feel that the first option is too large for my small home but I very much like the second option.  It is sleek and well designed from what I can tell.  I like that I can turn the mist to face me while I sleep.

Also, thank you for the mention of a wedge pillow – I may have to look at investing in one!

    1. Humidifiers for sleeping are going to be an asset to anyone who purchases them. IF you have time please check out how to sleep when you have a stuffy nose, you might find some nuggets in there to alleviate congestion.

    2. Glad you were able to find this helpful. With the season change coming around, it will be a great help.

  6. Wow thanks for this really nice post. My son has asthma and he since we moved to our new apartment these attacks have been more frequent than normal. I feel its because of the stuffy atmosphere in the area and I would love to get the AIRCARE EP9 800 Digital to help with air we breath. I have high hopes on this. Thanks for the information.

  7. Ron Mendoza says:

I like the TaoTronics TT-AH001 humidifier the most because the price isn’t too bad. But the AIRCARE EP9 800 is probably the most efficient and heavy-duty among the three here and would be the best option for a large home.

    1. Yes, I agree the price isn’t too bad. For a large home, the AirCare EP9 800 would be great.

  8. I’m glad I came across this article! I’ve always been allergic to pollen and hated spring times. My symptoms just got worse since I moved to the city side. I’ve used pink salt lamps and they help to some extend. However I think I will be needing to add a humidifier on top of those now. Thanks for sharing! Blessings.

    1. Allergies can be a bit of pain. We live in a farm area and can feel their effects all the time. Especially my son who gets nose bleeds if his room isn’t prepped with the humidifier before he goes to bed.

  9. Hi Eric, currently in the summer, we’re sleeping with an air conditioner on very close to the bed, which is not at all idea, because it is giving me a sore throat in the morning. The reasons for that aren’t clear at all to me. Humidity is very high in the summer.

In the winter, we use a humidifier with warm mist, which unfortunately requires a lot of cleaning care. Your post made me think about replacing it. I found MH-701BA Digital Humidifier to be the most appropriate for me. However, you didn’t mention the ease of care. Please could you comment on that? Thanks a lot

    1. The entire construction of the humidifier is made of antimicrobial plastic which will prevent mold, bacteria, or mildew from growing. The ceramic filter lasts forever.

I have actually answered that in choosing your humidifier section. There is very little maintenance required on any of these humidifiers.

My goal for this review was less maintenance but more benefits.

      1. Great. Thanks for confirming it.

  10. Henderson says:

Wow, humidifiers, no no, never heard of those before and I’m sure this is my perfect solution. At night, I get some serious nose blocking and the moisture of my nose gets dry and very very uncomfortable. Using the humidifier will definitely help me. Among your review, I don’t know which is perfect but I got attracted to the TaoTronics TT-AH001 Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifier. Do you think this one is perfect for the use I have for it, if no, which would you recommend

    1. The TaoTronics will be great to cover good space. It may be just what you need. Hope you find the perfect one for your needs.

  11. Thanks for sharing some options about different types of humidifiers that are available!    I live in a very arid area.  The air is so dry that some of my artwork has started cracking and some of my wooden furniture.   I started thinking that if these things are cracking, the dry air must be playing havoc with my skin.

For the last year, I’ve put off purchasing a humidifier because I hated the big bulky things.   There is nothing attractive out them in my opinion.

Up until now, I’ve been trying to keep plants in the house and an fish aquarium to add a bit more moisture.    Yet, I really like the sound of the TaoTronics TT-AH006 Warm & Cool Mist Ultrasonic Humidifiers that you mentioned above.   That model  is small enough that it can be easily put away in a closet when not in use.   Nor would it take up a bunch of room in the bedroom.

    1. Yes, it is a very discreet model, even if you were to leave it out, it would go with any decor in a home. Thanks for stopping by.

  12. I seriously bookmark this article because I really need a humidifier for this coming winter. I didn’t have one last winter and there were times when I wished I did. I didn’t have one because I broke my little $20 humidifier that I had gotten at Target. Actually the knob fell off and I couldn’t use it but other than that it’s still worked fine I just couldn’t actually turn it on. So yeah maybe I will get one of these state-of-the-art humidifiers and it will last me a long time.
The last one you put there made me think about my dad’s paper shredder because it kind of looks the same. My dad got the most heavy duty paper shredder possible instead of just getting the cheapest one possible and it really does make a difference. Also yeah quietness is an important factor.
I don’t have all the money for it now and I don’t need it right away but if I can get the money together by the winter then this is where I will come for a humidifier. If you can post options closer to 30 to $50 it might help me because I’m not going to be a millionaire by then.

    1. I reviewed these as they seem to cover a lot of space, but if you feel you need a smaller one. The last is just a little above the price range you are looking at.

  13. Thank you for writing a very detailed review of these three humidifiers.

I am actually interested in AIRCARE EP9 800. I like the simplicity of the design and most of all, like what you said, I can save more energy with this compared to the other two.

I will do some more research on this and will bookmark this site if I’m good to go with this. Thank you once again!

    1. Thanks for stopping by. Wishing you all the best in your hunting.

  14. RoDarrick says:

I am in a dire urgent need of a humidifier in my home that can help me a lot for my sleeping. Seriously, the level of humidity in my home has dropped down so low that while sleeping yesterday, my nose was bleeding. Though I consulted a doctor but he informed me about other cases of such that was reported today too so,I figured out I will be doing myself lot of good by getting a humidifier. I will just be glad to get any kind of humidifier from the reviewed ones. They are all great with excellent features. Thanks

    1. Hope you find the perfect one for you. I know all about nose bleeds, my son gets them if it’s too dry in his room. We always keep his room moist.
